It’s a big night tonight for football fans as the home nations continue in their quest to book a place at the finals of the European Championships next summer.

England are traditionally the best option of a nation from the UK qualifying, but things are not going all their own way so far.  In fact, despite their protestations that several players are “world class” they have actually been struggling for a little while now and that makes tonight’s game crucial - if they lose or even draw then qualifying is going to be a pretty tough task.

On the BBC’s site today, they talk about their coverage of England’s games in this blogpost, which features this picture of David Beckham from Friday’s friendly against Brazil - looking at his legs and feet, it looks to me like he has either dislocated something or put his boots on the wrong feet.  Maybe Victoria didn’t have time to write L and R on them before kick-off…

David Beckham, seemingly with his legs on back to front…

Estonia will be anything but a push-over despite their apparent poor record in recent games, and there will be enormous pressure on everyone from the manager down but hopefully they will pull off a victory to keep the media off their backs - for a little while at least.

Scotland have a (hopefully) easier opponent in the Faroe Islands, but we have this amazing ability to lower ourselves to the level of our opponents and end up making complete fools of ourselves in places like that.  One week, we can play well enough to beat the likes of Italy or France, the next week we are getting beaten by a bunch of builders and carpenters playing in a local park.  Very frustrating for the fans, players and managerial staff alike, but that simply cannot happen tonight if we are to have any hope of making it through to the Finals next summer.

The rest of the home nations have a night off tonight, and will presumably be glued to the box - watching the second last episode of The Apprentice no doubt…
