May 2008

It has to be said that David Coulthard has been lacking luck in the last few races.  He has been very unfortunate, with his disappointing results being down to bad luck rather than a lack of talent or ability, in my humble opinion at least.

This weekend as we look ahead to the race things are looking a bit different.  He has again qualified behind his teammate, but at least he made it through to the last section to end up in the top ten.  Given the relative performance of the pair, I’ll be surprised if he isn’t running with a lot more fuel than Webber and therefore his position at tenth is a little artificial.

Haven’t posted an update for a little while, but that’s not to mean I’ve not been out and about.

Since the last post which covered up to 17th April, we ventured out on Tuesday 22nd and Thursday 24th April - covering 2.5km each day.  Not very far I’ll admit, and we were a bit disappointed not to be increasing the distance so we decided that come Sunday 27th we would go all out to see how far we could go.

Anyone who watched A Question of Sport on BBC1 would have seen this clip already tonight, but I thought it so good I had to post it here!

The section of the show which featured the clip is called What Happened Next? and unsurprisingly each team is shown a clip which pauses at a certain point and they have to guess how the action progressed.

In this particular clip, the video was paused just after the football player managed to get onto the stretcher - do they always have to put themselves on the stretcher by the way?

Don’t get me wrong, I actually quite like Ted Kravitz - he is probably the second guy I’d like to see join BBC next year along with Martin Brundle.

But I have to take exception to something he has written in his post-race notebook article on ITV’s website.

Talking about Michael Schumacher’s appearance in the paddock at Barcelona last weekend, he states that Michael was apparently upset at some media coverage of his 8-year old son’s first outing in a kart. Now I can understand why Michael would be annoyed by this - if his son Mick does enter the motorsport arena, then the pressure on his shoulders is going to be unbelievable. Because of this, it seems a fairly reasonable request from Schumacher that the media leave his son alone for now until he decides whether this motorsport malarkey is really the path he wants to take.

A bit harsh perhaps, but it’s how I feel about the whole affair at the moment.

For those not familiar with the story, Andrea Smiley of Paisley has appeared in court after her pet Alsatian was found dead in her home.

Neither Miss Smiley nor her dog had been seen for a while when neighbours noticed a strange smell coming from her flat. A telephone call to the police ended with them breaking down the front door, fearful that she could be lying dead inside - what they found wasn’t Miss Smiley, it was the body of her poor dog which she had left there to die.
