With all the publicity recently regarding the film adaptation of the book, I felt compelled to see what was going on with Watchmen - is it really as good as they say?

I’ve never read a graphic novel before - unless you count The Beano, The Dandy, Oor Wullie or The Broons - so there were doubts over whether a story could be as well told and involving given this book was obviously going to have to tell it in little speech bubbles and simple drawings.

How wrong I was!

This is certainly no episode of Dennis the Menace, the illustrations are absolutely amazing with tiny details which are only noticeable on close scrutiny. The story too is well thought out and although it appears slightly confusing at first by heading off in different directions, but it all becomes clear when the threads meet up again at the end.

Now anxious to see the movie, although at the same time I have a feeling that it probably won’t be as good as the book now!

Tempted to now go back and seek out the Batman books - having enjoyed the films, I think it will be interesting to see what I make of the graphic novels although I don’t think the movie scripts follow the novel plots too closely.

This is now the favourite book of the year!!
