The catch-up didn’t happen quite as quickly as I’d hoped, but anyways…

To be honest, I’d never heard of Karin Slaughter - but what an excellent name for an author who writes about people being murdered etc!! The book was cheap, hence me buying it having never heard of the author before…

It’s actually been a little while since I read this so the plot is a bit hazy in my head now, but it revolves around a couple who I presume have featured before in her books as not a huge deal of background was given. This may just be her style and if it is then that’s not a criticism as it was simple enough to fill in a backstory and at no point did I feel I was missing out on anything by not having read any of her other works.

Sometimes books which feature a regular character or characters can focus on them a little too much, with the author interested in moving their personal story on a little book by book - sometimes to the detriment of the main plot in question.

Having read some other reviews of this book on Amazon, it seems some regular readers were disappointed by Indelible as Slaughter’s earlioer works appear to have been much more gruesome and shocking. That’s certainly not the case here so perhaps this is her way of moving on the character development after all - or perhaps she felt she needed to be shocking in the first few books just to get into the industry and now she has a fanbase she can write how she really wants. Who knows.

I certainly didn’t finish the book disappointed by either the story, the characters or the way it was written as all three were excellent. Of course, having not read her other books I have nothing to really compare it to other than books by other authors, against which she stacks up well.

While I haven’t exactly filled my Amazon WishList with other Karin Slaughter books, she is an author I will look out for in future and wouldn’t hesitate recommending her to others.
