running

I was reading on leyton.org about a 10k run in Glasgow which has been announced for June this year.

It seems a while away, but no doubt it will soon be here - which has made me have second thoughts on whether to enter or not.

Running a 10k race was one of my goals for the year, so when I first read about this one, my initial reaction was to get signed up - then I started to think about how “unready” I am to be doing anything like that distance.

Was considering the purchase of a Garmin Forerunner 305, a sports watch which measures heart rate and also supplies a host of other information on your running performance from it’s GPS capabilities.

I was all excited about getting this new shiny toy, however I’m a bit concerned now about what it’s performance would be in my area.

Having read as many reviews as I can find, several commenters seem to have had problems in wooded areas and in cloudy conditions - I live in Scotland where both of these features are prevalent!

Headed off up into the forest today for a run.

Seemed like a good idea when I thought about it last night, but about 500 yards from the car I’d changed my mind!

It was bitterly cold, but at least it was dry - something had to be in my favour.  The downside to being out in the country though was that the lasting effect of the snow from earlier in the week were the huge puddles which covered the whole path in places.

Stopping to try and find a way round these areas provided me with a convenient excuse to catch my breath though.
