I think music is important in how we remember things. Certain songs will always bring back memories or feelings of a time or place, which I suppose can be a good or a bad thing!

Because I think music helps your brain connect with things, I find it fascinating to see how the media uses it in not only their programmes but also in adverts.

Even in movies it’s really strange if you watch a scene where there’s no music in the background - imagine watching Jaws without the da-dum, da-dum going on in the background whenever anyone goes into the water, it would be rubbish!

I really liked Billy Joel’s song We Didn’t Start The Fire when it first came out - can even remember listening to it over and over to try and work out the lyrics!

Obviously it’s not quite an all-time classic or anything so has slipped from the public’s glare over the last few years, which makes it a rather unusual and strange song to pick in order to use it as the source of a parody, but that’s exactly what someone has done.

I’ve always though that the prices in Apple’s iTunes store were pretty reasonable - okay you don’t get a physical copy of the song or album you are buying but then you normally pay a bit less too so what’s to complain about?

Unlike other music retailers they don’t have sales which means that at the moment you are probably better off buying some albums in the shops as Amazon have them for as low as just a couple of pounds.

It’s inevitable, I think at least, that how we perceive things by all 5 senses add up to how we perceive a certain item overall.

I’ll explain.  A film, for example, is aimed at our sight, but if you watch a film where the sound is dodgy or the cinema doesn’t have their speaker setup properly then you will leave with a worse impression of the film than you would have had you seen it in all it’s glory with the soundtrack as the director intended.

The Thrills - TeenagerThe Thrills new album is out this week, which I’ve been quite looking forward to for a wee while now.

I have phases of liking their stuff a lot, and then other times where it seems a bit wishy-washy but hopefully the new album will make me feel the former more than the latter!

The album is avaiable with a bonus DVD for a limited time, and usually these aren’t worth the extra money, but this one actually looks as if it’ll be quite good as they have released quite a few clips onto the interweb for people to watch.
